Marinus Johannes Broekman was born on 8 Feb 1850 in Amsterdam (Korte Gasthuismolensteeg 5). (Birth registered by the doctor, as the father was ill.)3,2 He married Margaretha Cramer, daughter of Gerard Cramer and Carolina Reuter, on 18 Feb 1875 at Amsterdam1,4 (banns 7 Feb 1875, Amsterdam, also in Utrecht.)1 He died on 9 Oct 1930 in Amsterdam.5 There was a death notice in the Algemeen Handelsblad on 10 Oct 1930.6
Other information:
Marinus Johannes Broekman was a store keeper in Amsterdam. According to familylore he had a fabric store, but it really was a rug and furniture store7,5 In the database of the Dutch Economic-Historical Archives I found the following in the catalog of the Special Collections, Documentation and pictures of trades
The file was a single picture of the store at 27 Paleisstraat in Amsterdam. The text in between the windows is clearer in the negative; it says: The Paleisstraat runs from the Dam (where the Palace is located) to the Singel, and was named in 1875. It is comprised of three pieces: from the Dam to the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal, from there to the Spuistraat, and then to the Singel. Previously these pieces were named Gasthuisstraat, Stilsteeg, and Korte Gasthuismolensteeg. Gerrit Lucas Broekman had his bakery in the Gasthuismolensteeg near the corner with the Singel. I was wondering whether this could be the same house, but after some digging online in the Amsterdam Municipal Archives I do not think so. 27 Paleisstraat seems to have been located near or at the corner of the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal, so is somewhat closer to the Dam.9,10 He and Margaretha Cramer lived in 1904 in Santpoort.11
They lived from Mar 1875 to Nov 1876 at Fokke Simonsz straat 6 (107/145); he came from Utrecht, she from card BB27/48. In 1876 they went to Paleisstraat 27 (358/194), in May 1888 to Oudezijds Voorburgwal 88 (527/258), and on 16 Mar 1891 to Oudezijds Voorburgwal 63 (526/106.)12,13,14
