     Jan Hendrik Gast was geboren on 16 Nov 1877 in Borne.1,2 He trouwde met Maria Willemina Petronella ter Horst on 11 Nov 1909 at Hellendoorn2,3 (otr. 30 Oct 1909, Hellendoorn, ook in Borne en Stad Almelo.)2 He overleed on 21 May 1924 in Everett.4 Jan Hendrik, Bertus, Gerhard, Marinus Egbert and Gerritdina zijn begraven op de Maple Leaf begraafplaats at Oak Harbor.5 Er was een nieuws artikel waarin zijn overlijden waren vermeld in de Seattle Daily Times op 22 May 1924.6

Jan Hendrik Gast was een melkboer in Nederland, maar hij wilde boer worden.3,2 Jan Hendrik Gast immigreerde on 20 May 1911 op de Teutonic naar Quebec, Canada, met zijn vrouw Maria Willemina en zijn zoontje Albertus7,8 Hun bestemming was Medicine Hat, Alberta.3
     Hij vroeg een homestead patent aan in 1911 (Hij woonde toen in Carlstadt, AB), en kreeg titel in 1916. Hij vestigde zich in sectie 33, zuidwestelijk kwartier (SW 33 Tsp17 Rge8 Meridian W4)9,10 In 1923 immigreerden zij naar the VS, zij woonden in Oak Harbor, Island County, Washington.11
     Jan Hendrik Gast en de kinderen kwamen om in een huisbrand.12,11

Hij word vermeld in de volgende volkstellingen:
1921 Alberta Volkstelling: Gezin van Jan Hendrik Gast, Medicine Hat. Gezin bestaat uit Jan Hendrik, zijn vrouw Marie en met hun kinderen Albertus, Gerrit, Mariens and Dina. Hij heeft zijn eigen boerderij. Volgens deze telling immigreerde hij in 1910 en was hij genaturaliseerd in 1913. Maar het zegt ook dat Albertus geimmigreerd was in 1912.13
1916 Alberta Volkstelling: Gezin van John H. Gast, 17 8 W4, King 153 (ED 21), Medicine Hat 40. Gezin bestaat uit John H., zijn vrouw Maria Willemina Petronella en hun kinderen Albert, Gerrit and Mariens.14
